Adding A ToolTip To Any Cell In Excel

When we make a form for others to fill out it is helpful to have some tips to let them know what the cell represent so that they fill out the correct details in the cells.

The tooltip or infotip or a hint is a common graphical user interface element. It is used in conjunction with a cursor, usually a pointer. The user selects the cell and the tooltip gives out a hint text that helps the user.

Awesome right? They are located in the ribbon in excel under Data tab, and they are very easy to setup.

The steps are super easy to follow

  1. Select the cell where you want the tooltip to appear.
  2. Select the Data, validation or press ALT+D.
  3. In the Data Validation dialog, go to the input tab. Optionally type in a title
  4. Type an input Message
  5. Click OK

Now whenever someone selects the cell, the ToolTip appears.
